The trail was snow-free except for just a couple of small patches. The trail was in good condition. There were a couple of easy small stream crossings going up to Hidden Lake.
We left the trailhead at 9:15 a.m. and arrived at Upper Palisades Lake around 11:30 a.m. The weather was perfect -- sunny, with just enough breeze to keep the bugs at bay. We opted for a side trip up Brown's Peak to catch fabulous views of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, the Goat Rocks, and Cowlitz Chimneys. To the north, we could see Mt. Stuart. On the hike out, we took the side trail to beautiful Hidden Lake.
All in all, 9.5 miles, 2,300 ft. of elevation (lots of up and down), and more than 10 lakes!!
We returned to the trailhead just before 4 p.m. Everyone in our small group of three did well and enjoyed the day.
