Trip Report

Day Hike - Narada Falls

This hike is about 5 miles with about 1000 feet of elevation gain. It includes many of the iconic features of Mt. Rainier National Park: lakes, river, water falls, meadows, woods, and scenic views.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The only thing that would have made this trail better today was a lack of clouds so that we could have seen "the mountain" in all of its glory.  The trail was easy to navigate with signage matching maps.  The trail is very wet/muddy in spots, and unfortunately, many people have been walking around those spots to avoid the mud, creating a wider and wider trail.  We saw at least one family going off trail for pictures and flower collection and gently tried to educate them.

Parking - very easy at this lot as we arrived at 9:15 a.m. on a Friday morning.  We saw at least 2 picas along the way, enjoyed the flower show and the views, and the varied types of terrain.  If you go, please encourage people to stay ON the trail and not veer off for pictures or to avoid mud.  5 miles and about 1150 feet of elevation gain.  We started hiking at 9:45 a.m. and finished by 1:30.  We took frequent rest/photography breaks and an extended top for lunch at Faraway Rock.  This trip was posted as being between 1.5 and 2.0 mph, and we averaged 1.7.  fullsizeoutput_4d12.jpeg
