Trip Report

Day Hike - Mount Washington (Snoqualmie)

A nice winter day out in Washington!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Lots of water flowing on the lower trail, and LOTS of snow for at least the final 1,000 feet. A few blowdowns that were easy to pass, otherwise the usual rocky conditions. Watch out for a few large potholes after turning to enter the parking area.

There were a lot of cars in the morning, but the trail didn't feel crowded. We were all happy that we didn't get hit with rain until we got back to the cars, and then only sprinkles. But the depth and amount of snow up higher really surprised us all! On the upper slopes it appeared to be 3 to 4 feet deep. Fortunately we were able to follow a decent boot path, although it was quite narrow in places while traversing. Spikes were definitely needed. We escaped a strong cold breeze behind the trees for summit snacks, then headed down. All in all it was an unexpectedly wintry and enjoyable day in the hills with a great group of Mountaineers!

Puttin' on the spikes!
