Day Hike - Mount Teneriffe-Mount Si Traverse

A gorgeous sunny day for this epic Teneriffe-Si traverse!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The main Mt. Si trail is in great shape with no snow until near the Haystack, and then it was patchy. Patchiness increased as we approached the bench and connector trail. Micro-spikes were not needed, but we decided to use them for more secure footing at some point along the Teneriffe Trail where the snow became more consistent. The snowpack was slim, and an excellent boot track existed the entire way. One spot led us in the wrong direction toward Blowdown Mtn for a short distance, but now I know how to get to Blowdown!

The Si parking lot was in its usual muddy pot-holey condition and there was plenty of room upon my arrival at 7:45. Very few hikers were out at that time; surprising because it was a beautiful sunny day and not really cold. We made great time to the Haystack, about 2 hrs/15 minutes with a couple of short stops.

We began our trek at 8:00 and were back to the cars just before 4:00 after 14.2 miles rt and 4,785' gain. Our route back via the Talus loop from the Teneriffe Trail saved some time and distance. In a nutshell, it was a wonderful day with my two amazing Mountaineer companions!
