Trip Report

Day Hike - Mount Rose

Unexpectedly pleasant weather for this popular conditioner.

  • Road rough but passable
  • About eight small blowdowns below Horse Camp, easy to step over. Three big blowdowns on trail below summit, on the left 'steep' route, easily passed. Did the loop, a couple of large blowdowns along the ridge, but easily passed. Otherwise, trail is in good shape. A very large, unusual amount of water in streams, new waterfalls. Several small streams flowed over part of log bridge crossings. This did not present a problem, but caution needed on slick logs. Recommend waterproof boots.

Last half mile to trailhead is in bad shape with many water-filled large holes on the mud road. it's drive-able but take it slow especially in a sedan.

Only one other party of three on the trail. A trace of drizzle now then, many sun breaks, not cold, a little breezy but not bad, no snow.  Trekking poles recommended. A great workout on 6.5 miles rt (loop) and 3,500' gain. Gets you away from crowds.
