Trip Report

Day Hike - Mercer Island: Mercerdale Hillside

We managed to stay dry while taking on the 500 plus stairs of this Mercer Island stairway walk, the final walk in the Seattle Stairways guide book.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • With a lot of rain the week before, there were some muddy spots along the way.  The timber steps can be a little slippery, but some of the stairways have railings or paths alongside the stairway.

There is plenty of parking at the start and public restrooms at the bottom of the first set of stairs.  We’d hoped to see the bald eagle nest that I’d seen three eagles perched near earlier in the week, but were not fortunate today.  We did see raccoon tracks and an Anna’s Hummingbird.  This walk is a hidden gem on Mercer Island.
