Trip Report

Day Hike - May Valley Loop (Squak Mountain)

Surprising Solitude on Squak Mt. It was a beautiful evening for a hike.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is in mostly good shape. A few blowdown and some muddy patches. The trails are well worn from heavy traffic this year. We started with the May Valley Loop, took a detour to Debbie's View, then to  Central Peak and down the Summit trail and Phil's Creek.

It was a beautiful warm evening for a hike.  We enjoyed hiking through the forest. We are trying to avoid crowded trails during the pandemic and so choose the May Valley Loop as it is usually less crowded than other trails on Squak. This is the only trailhead here that requires a pass - Discover. There were a few other hikers on the trail as we headed up. We were surprised to have Debbie's View to ourselves and had dinner with a view of Mt. Rainier. Some people came as we were ready to leave. There was no one at the fireplace and no one at Central Peak. The view at the  peak  is now obscured by trees.
