Trip Report

Day Hike - Mason Lake

Beautiful day and gorgeous fall color as we hiked to an alpine lake for lunch.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trail is in really good shape.

We got to the trailhead shortly after 8 am. The parking lot was almost full. On the way out we saw cars parked along the road for about a mile.

The fall color is very good, but more is coming. I would expect a few more weeks of good color. There was mist in the valley, with views of Mt Rainier and McClellan Butte showing above.  We stopped at the Ira Spring Memorial. The lake is beautiful. Most people took the left fork at the outlet, so we took the right for  a peaceful lunch. There is some rock to scramble over. After lunch, we explored the other side of the lake beore heading down.

We had a really good group of hikers. It was a fun day.
