Trip Report

Day Hike - Lena Lake

This is a well-maintained and busy trail to a pretty lake with some camping. With fine weather, expect to see a lot of people and dogs.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trail was clear to the lake, but the bridge over the lower lake inlet is gone, requiring a fairly sketchy balance and hop across to get to the Brothers Trail on the other side. There were reports of snow on the trail to Upper Lena.

We had gorgeous weather and a second-tier holiday weekend (Juneteenth and Fathers Day), so there were a lot of cars at the trailhead, but we all found good parking. There were a lot of people on the trail -- hikers, backpackers, climbers -- and a lot of dogs. Everyone was smiling (since no one was wearing masks) and it was pleasant. We took lunch at an empty, shady campsite on the lake, which is still quite high, and made a sidetrip to the inlet stream coming from Upper Lena. There is only the remains of a bridge there, but it is possible to get across.

The group did very well together. Everyone's conditioning was adequate and no one suffered any injury or mishap.

Sunny lunch spot on Lower Lena Lk.
