Trip Report

Noble Nob via Lake George

Lots of fire damage

  • Mon, Nov 15, 2021 — Tue, Nov 16, 2021
  • Noble Knob via Dalles Ridge
  • Day Hiking
  • Successful
  • Road rough but passable
  • The north end of the trail is in a recent burn area, and a large percentage of the trail has blown down and is obscured. However, at 2 km in, just before the trail begins to climb the ridge in ernest, the fire damage abates and the trail is easy to follow. Once at snow line, about 2.75 km and 5330 ft (it was about 45 degrees out!) The trail is in excellent condition.

Good to have a map, compass and GPS!

I started from spur road 410, off the FS Road 7220 rather than the "designated trailhead". Google maps is not to be obeyed- do the homework to find this trailhead!

From the spur road 410 through the first 2 km, the trail is easily lost in the fire damage and blow down.

Then at the third road crossing (Rd 7222-1) the trail climbs the ridge to Noble Nob, and the route is in great shape, although this day the wind was picking up rapidly as I headed south.

Arriving at the junction with the Corral Pass/Lost Lake/Noble Nob/ Dalles Ridge Access trails, the wind was extremely strong. I began up the Nob, but was knocked down twice by gusts. I told The Mountain "Okay, okay, I'm going home now, I get it!"

I returned to my vehicle with the adventure of loosing the trail in the burn area, between spur roads 610 and 410.KIMG0357.JPG
