Road washout can be bypassed at river level with bikes at current river flows. A rope at the west end of the washout is helpful for getting bikes and people up to the other side.
The trail is as advertised: steep, loose and exposed in places. This hike is more technical and exposed than many scrambles. We had perfect weather, few bugs, a brief but rejuvenating swim in the lake, and good companions, making for a very enjoyable day.
