Day Hike - Goat Lake (Monte Cristo)

Successful trip. Get there early.

  • Road rough but passable
  • The upper and lower trails have sections with overgrown brush adjacent to the trail.  The trail is still passable.  The lower tail has 2 or 3 trees over the trail, not there last year, that can be stepped over.  The side trail to the log jam at the outlet of the lake is overgrown with brush and is not passable.

Beware of a lot of of vehicles parked on both sides of the road at Barlow pass narrowing the road to one vehicle with nowhere to pullover if two oncoming vehicles meet.

There are a few deep potholes on the access road to the trailhead.

Arrived at ~0910 to a full parking area at the trailhead.  Departed at ~1620 with vehicles parked quite a ways down the access road narrowing the road to one vehicle width with nowhere to  pullover if two oncoming vehicles meet. No vehicle vandalism was seen.

A light amount of gnats and mosquitoes were encountered.
