Trip Report

Day Hike - Davis Peak

Excellent hike if you go at the right time. We had no snow on the trail, only a few blow downs to dodge, lots of wild flowers and cool weather.

  • Road recommended for high clearance only
  • Early season reports warned of snow in the bowl below the final climb to the ridge, however it was almost completely melted out with no snow on the trail. The trail was in good condition at the beginning with evidence of recent tree removal, however later we had several blow downs to navigate and the trail was quite bushy in places.

We were all able to park in the middle lot, even a car with normal road clearance. Although there is a lot right off the main road that can be used. The third parking area right at the trail head is only for jeeps or high clearance vehicles. The trail climbs relentlessly but is not overly steep due to the countless number of switchbacks. The trail is easy to follow even though it is bushy in places. We saw a marmot and a deer, that pretty much ignored us and continued about their business. We also saw lots of wild flowers. The weather was mostly cloudy with occasional sun breaks so we did not have any sun exposure issues, which can be a problem later in the season. In spite of the clouds we had great views, although we would have seen more on a perfectly clear day. Still it was very enjoyable and well worth the effort. If timed properly and the weather co-operated this would be a truly outstanding hike.
