Cross-country Ski - Lake Easton

Low snow!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Road was totally clear to parking lot, and the parking lot was empty!

Snow was low but actually pretty good.  The trail was not groomed and there was a lot of small tree debris on the trail (as well as a deer carcass just off the trail).  I asked another single skier how the snow was on the loops and she told us it was even worse and would be best to stay off with the novice skiers.  So we stayed on the trail nearest the lake all the way to Frozen Toes at the Yakima river.  The sun came out so we decided to have our lunch and then head back early.  In summary I would say that this trail is done for the year.  Would I do it again next year?  Doubtful, it was a little too easy and too much of it was alongside the highway, too much noisy traffic.  But it is an excellent trail for beginners, just one hill that challenged a few of the group but it was not too steep and had safe run off.  The one loop that was rated in black was steep and did not have decent run out, that would be the one loop I would never do with novices.
