Trip Report

Cross-country Ski - Amabilis Mountain

Surprisingly great snow conditions and even sunny skies at the top of Amabilis.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

A great group of skiers with strong skills and metal edges successfully accomplished my favorite counter clockwise (anti clockwise for you Anglophiles) loop of Amabilis. The awesome Kongsberger groomer had groomed to the top while we were still sleeping, and for that, we sincerely thank him! Conditions were slightly slick up to the Y, where we took the way less traveled, heading right. Previous snowmobile tracks were covered by some fresh powder, making travel on the ungroomed road as easy as I have previously seen. Even the cut-through to the groomed route at the top was fairly easy to travel, but still requires skills with narrower ungroomed terrain. From there, it was a fast ride down. My Gaia reports that my fastest speed was 16.4mph. Total travel time including breaks and exploring to the beacon at the top was 4.5 hours. Our day reminds me how much I thoroughly love Nordic skiing!
