Conditioning Hikes - West Tiger Mountain No. 3

A successful conditioning hike in the snow with a great group of scrambling students.

  • Snow and ice on road

Our original trip to Mount Si had to be changed due to the heavy snow and closure of Mount Si trailhead. Tiger 3 turned out to be a nice alternative. The road paralleling I-90 to Tradition Plateau was snowy but with two clear tracks. We only experience a little sliding when having to move out of the tracks for a car leaving the trailhead. The parking lot was maybe a quarter full when we arrived and there was snow of the ground. Most of us put on our traction devices before setting out. There was snow covering the entire trail but it had been packed down by other hikers and trail runners. The scrambling students did a terrific job hiking in the snow, some testing out new boots and others coping with traction devices that weren't quite up for the job. They were a fun group with great attitudes. There were many other hikers and runners enjoying Tiger 3 today - even a few familiar faces. We enjoyed a relaxing lunch a the summit and headed down in light drizzle. The snow at lower elevations created a slushy trail with more bare batches than earlier in the day. The parking lot was mostly full upon our return.
