Scheduled destination was for Red Mountain (Snoqualmie Pass) but avalanche, weather, and general snow conditions were not cooperating. Headed up the Commonwealth Basin into the Cave Ridge vicinity instead.
Departed the Summit West parking area at 8:15 AM. Turned around at 4900' at about 11:30 AM. It was lots of work to break trail outside of an established track. Back at parking area at 1:30 PM in time to drive home before I-90 got too messy.
