Trip Report

Castle Peak & First Mother Mountain

On 9/19, we did this as a clockwise loop around Mowich Lake. The weather seemed to be clearing up when we started, but that trend reversed before we reached the summit of Castle. We briefly were able to see some of the lower slopes including Echo Rock, but otherwise it stayed cloudy with occasional drizzle. It was still a mostly fun day except for an encounter with bees (or some other stinging insects) in the woods north of Mowich Lake. I and one other person got 1 sting each, while 2 other people each got two stings. There is a delicate exposed move on the traverse around the bump south of Castle, but everyone, including a couple of students, handled it just fine.
