Great trip, 2 little peaks, warm weather, long day

  • Sun, May 12, 2019
  • Scrambling
  • Successful
  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Firm nice snow on the way up, mush on the way down, some postholes near rocks. Fun glissades.

Great group . Met after olympia snow 2 at National Park inn to have dinner and overnight in the lodge. Got an early start the next morning and made good time most of the way up. Took liberal breaks to help folks with altitude. Took heavy packs with the intention to build snow camps but, though we did melt snow for water, the group preferred to scramble up to the peak above Camp Muir and then over to Anvil Rock. We thought maybe we'd go down and set up tents at Alta Vista, but in the end we weren't that ambitious. Some clouds at around 15,000 feet in the morning , came down to around 12,000 feet, cleared up , came in again, but we had great visibility the whole way.
