Beginner Snowshoe - Reflection Lakes

A fabulous day with a few inches of fresh snow and clear blue skies and good people.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Clear access on snow pack with a few inches on top via the left trail. Rivers were filled with icicles but running. Used spikes, would have wanted shoes to get on the unbroken trail from reflection to Louise  but opted instead to go back and venture to the falls lookout from the parking lot. Slick ice in spots to the lookout. I was happy to have spikes. Others (not part of our group)  seemed happy to scootch down on their butts, or cling to the handrail to get down to see the falls. Worth seeing from that side if you are comfortable with getting down.

Group of 5 made it to longmire gate around 9:30, first in the Narada falls lot. Due to snow conditions, we carried the shoes but used microspikes. We went to reflection via the upper route, started to head to Louise which would have required some trail breaking. Instead we  had lunch in a sunny spot and headed back to make sure we could see the full on glory of Narada falls

Easy driving, reasonable parking, relatively quiet trail despite being thanksgiving weekend. Great group of mellow but enthusiastic and experience snowshoers, happy to be out in the snow and the sunshine.
