Trip Report

Basic Snowshoe - Rampart Ridge

We traveled clockwise up the steep switchbacks first. There was between 6-8 feet of snow and snow was a nice powder until the descent on the Wonderland trail where it started to become slushy at temps warmed the snow. Overall it was a really good trip.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • At about 3800 feet along the switchback to the south, we encountered narrow snowshoe passage while traversing the hill.

There was also a tree down across the trail about 1.5 miles north of Longmire along the wonderland trail, but we were able to get around it.

Driving was okay to Longmire and park pass is needed at Mount Rainier National Park.
