Basic Snowshoe - Lodge Lake

A short snowshoe trip in at times dense fog and light falling snow

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

From the West Main parking area at Snoqualmie Pass we ascended the slope in dense fog to the 3,400’ pass where the PCT exits the ski area.  Snow conditions were good.  Snowshoes, microspikes and boots all worked; beyond the pass we all used snowshoes.  We followed the PCT, marked by a corridor through the forest and traces of old snowshoe tracks, till a steep wall of snow cut by the first stream into Lodge Lake showing on the map, where steep snowbanks precluded further travel.  Instead, we followed the stream down to Lodge Lake.  We had lunch in only slightly less dense fog, then returned as we had come.  Stats: 3.6 miles in 4 hours of travel, 1,900’ of gain.
