Trip Report

Basic Alpine Climb - Whitehorse Mountain/Northwest Shoulder

Turned around at Lone Tree Pass

  • Road rough but passable
  • Unconsolidated snow starting from around 3000' made for slow travel.

We turned around after reaching Lone Tree Pass in 5 hours due to impending rain in the afternoon and slow going due to the unconsolidated snow. There was also concern about avalanches later in the afternoon below Lone Tree Pass.  Trail was somewhat hard to find in the slide alder zone around 2300'.   From Darrington, the summit itself looks 100% snow covered.

Picture was taken Friday evening.  Saturday weather less pleasant (but safer avy-wise)
