Basic Alpine Climb - Silver Tip Peak/Southeast Route

Successful trip.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Good conditions, nothing out of the ordinary.

Had a few new basic students in various states of recovery from this that and the other thing.  So made it a slow paced overnight.  Pace overall was about half speed from a normal outing in order to get them all up and down okay.

A straightforward basic alpine climb.   Start at Silver Lake, find any number of climbers trails that all eventually meet at the top of the ridge.  Follow the trail to the 6000ft south summit. Then drop down and contour around the rest of the ridge meeting back up at the base of the summit.  Scramble up to the tree line.  Drop packs then scramble up the ledge to the base of the exposed final 30ft.   Last move pulling over the top is the exposed move.   Kinda tough in climbing boots, easy in approach shoes.  We led up and set a handline which everyone appreciated.

There is an rap anchor up top.   A set of twin 37's got us back to the packs at the trees.

Light alpine rack with a few cams and a nut or two is all if you lead it.
