Basic Alpine Climb - Mount Shuksan/Sulphide Glacier

Snow on the approach from 3900'. Snow all the way up they gully to the summit, with a couple feet of ice/snow mix at the top.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • No exposed crevasses on Sulphide Glacier.  Crampons weren't necessary; the snow was soft enough to kick steps even at 3am.  On the gully up the summit pyramid, the snow reached all the way to the top.  The last 3' or so was a mix of ice, snow, and ice covered rock.  Maybe a little on the sketchy side for a basic climb, but everyone managed it.  We put on crampons only for this last few feet.

Camped in the saddle just north of point 6531.  Great view of Baker.  A strong group made everything go very smoothly.  A real pleasure.
