Trip Report

Basic Alpine Climb - Little Tahoma/East Shoulder

Great trip. Beautiful weather. Hot, Hot, HOT

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

Scattered snow at trail head. full snow at the bridge and all they way up to summer land. Soft snow, kicking steps all the way to meany crest. no running water at meany crest. tent sites area all bare of snow.
230am start, snow was just firm enough. Zero open crevasses on the frying pan. two moats starting to open on the upper whitman easily passed on right. departing glacier there is a short rock section followed by snow patch leading to the final scramble. We kept crampons on for this entire section. took them off only for the final 100 feet scramble. Did use a handline to get to the true summit but it was only needed for psychological reasons. very easy class 3ish scramble to true summit with less exposure than expected.    9 hours round trip back to meany crest.

super fun series of glissades from meany crest all the way back to summer land and beyond.
