Basic Alpine Climb - Ingalls Peak/South Ridge

An extra 2.4 miles due to wash out but otherwise standard trip with 50% melt out.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Slippery consolidated snow in gullies.

We (group of 8) started at 0630 from the Iron Peak TH and hit the Esmeralda TH at 0700.  The trail is completely melted out up to Ingalls Pass.  We descended on the lower pack trail which is 50% melted out, then up to Ingalls Lake, then made our way directly from the pair of trees (one dead, one alive) towards the spiked spur in the low gap at the south face rock climb start.  A double 70 m rope rap from the summit and a double 60 m rope rap from the lower boulder and out to the cars at 2200.  We did not use crampons but were careful to allow for self arrest run out above rock features, so do take ice axe.  If using single rope for rapping, a 70 m rope is required at the 2-3 pitch bolted anchor.
