  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Bridges in over carbon river. Upper river tributary crossing challenging in early evening due to high water. Main Bridge over raging river good

 6 mi R/T bike ride. 7 miles R/T hiking. 6 miles of scrambling.   19 miles 4000’ gain. 15 1/4  hours.

Left the Parking Area at 7 am for enjoyable 4 mile bike ride up the Carbon Road to the Chenuis Falls TH. Cross the river on  a new bridge, hike to the Northern  boundary of the park. Left the trail at 2850'  8:45 am. Found no boot path followed many animal track, including a first for me a Bear track, judging from scat and  soil disturbance. Very steep 3k gain in 2 mi. Arrived on Tirzah at 1:00 pm.Lots of obstacles, helmets and Ice axes deployed early on, no snow.

Left Tirzah at 1:30 rocks and cliff bands on ridge made for very slow progress. Descended  400' to the North followed gentler terrain between 4600' and 4800'. With cliff bands above and below us. Returned  up very steep terrain to the  Ridge 0.5 miles west of Wallace. I would try to approach Wallace from the NW  following wider contour lines in the future. Arrived at Wallace up SW ridge at 4:30pm.

Left Wallace at 5pm.  Cloud cover rising, captivating views on return trip. Pleasant gradual decent following ridge to the East. Followed 5000' contour to below second saddle then decending South to intersect the Northern loop trail at 4680. 7pm, 10hours 15 min off trail.

Long walk home, crossed challenging tributary crossing  before bridge over ragging Carbon river. Arrived back at bikes in the dark. returned to Cars just after  10pm. Great group of Scramblers on a very challenging trip, good times had by all.
