Due to recent snowfall we re-evaluated (at 6400’ on the Glacier Basin-Burroughs connector trail) using the basin SE of 3rd Burroughs for a cross country ascent, and decided in favor of it. Patchy snow slowed us down a bit throughout the day, but no big deal.
[After early fall snowfall rendered our original Tamanos-Banshee traverse non-optimal, we changed our destination to this Burroughs-Skyscraper Traverse (with a White River Campground start/finish for the conditioning aspect ;).]
Gorgeous and sweeping views of Little Tahoma and Mt Rainier in the unique alpine setting provided by the pumice plateaus of Burroughs. Time from White River Campground to 3rd Burroughs was 3.5 hours, with a total time for this ~15 mile/5300’ elevation gain trip of 3rd Burroughs, 2nd Burroughs, and Skyscraper of just under 10 hours. Photos from this and other trips to this venue can be seen here.
