Alpine Scramble - Tahtlum Peak

Snow conditions were not favorable for the orignal plan (Seymour Peak), but we had a great time doing Tahtlum on a beautiful clear day.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Traction devices were useful for the first part of the trip until it warmed up.  Otherwise, soft snow on rock was a bit slippery at times.

We started from the very slick parking lot at Tipsoo Lake, and took the Naches  Peak loop trail in a clockwise direction.  By the time we left the trail to head toward Tahtlum, it had warmed up to the point where we no longer needed traction devices.  The students on the trip all did fine, and got some experience with scrambling on patchy fresh snow.  It was a glorious day with excellent views.
