Alpine Scramble - Silver King

Great early season scramble to practice snow travel skills including self-arrest and glissading.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

On the way up, we took advantage of the packed ski slopes to practice self-arrest skills. The ascent onto the ridge involved practicing kicking steps in steep snow. The 600 foot glissade off the summit ridge was super steep. At first the students found it scary, but soon found it exhilarating.  When they reached the bottom, they dropped their packs and hiked back up to the ridge top to do it again.

Our luck with the weather held up. Although the forecasts called for rain in the afternoon, the rain didn't start until we were back in the parking lot. The day was topped off with a fine meal at the Griffin and Wells Cafe in Enumclaw.
