Alpine Scramble - Not Hinkhouse (Point 6878)

Last day to enjoy fall colors before winter's arrival in the alpine

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Near perfect.

We anticipated that the Ingalls Lake would be a busy destination this weekend, but by the time we got to the trailhead at 7:30AM, cars were already parked about 0.3 miles out of the parking on the road, and a loooong line at the outhouse delayed our departure.

Even though Ingalls Way to Ingalls Pass was as busy as Snow Lake Trail on a nice summer weekend, we were able to leave all the  commotion behind once we started our scramble toward Not Hinkhouse.  Along the way, we found some fun rocks to go up and over, some loose, some with a bit of spice, and got to the summit around 11:30 AM.  Right on schedule, gusting wind stopped like magic and we were able to enjoy early lunch and view at the summit without getting totally frozen. After scrambling down to Longs  Pass, we took the trail down and were back to the cars by 2:15 PM.

On our way out, the cars parked on the road stretched past Iron Peak TH and there was a traffic jam getting back on the paved road! Aside from the crowd, it was a perfect end to this fall scrambling season.
