Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Kaleetan Peak/South Route

Successful trip up the white ledges and down the ridge route.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Good late summer conditions. No snow  on the route.

Started walking at 6:50am to beat the heat. Pumped water at Upper Melakwa Lake as its input stream was dry. Worked our way up the talus towards Melakwa Pass and turned left after the last rock buttress before the pass. Followed heather up to a rock barrier. We found a reasonable passage on the middle-left and another further to the right. Continued up to the white ledges, which provided many good options to the ridge. From there we followed the path to the summit gully and scrambled to the top. Smoky day limited the view. On the return we followed the ridge trail back to Lower Melakwa Lake. Saw few people the whole day until we got back to the Denny Creek water slide.
