Alpine Scramble - Kaleetan Peak

Smokey, but successful summit

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Ascended Kaleetan via the most northern gulley in the upper Melakwa Lake basin.  We heard a lot of rock fall, but we were never able to spot where it was during the approach.  Once in the gully the lower portion has a lot of loose scree.  The sides have more solid foot and hand holds.  The Northern side I believe is better.  About 20 or 30 ft from the top of the gulley, we ascending a small culvert on the North Side, then turned left over a notch and this placed us right on the saddle below Kaleetan.  From here we followed the boot path up to the summit block, on the descent we stayed on the South Ridge back to Melakwa lake.
