Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Hibox Mountain

Strong participants. From TH to summit in less than 4 hours. Smoke from fires was a bummer. Trails and bootpath were in great shape.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Route conditions were generally very good with no obstructions and issues.  The bootpath from the valley floor was well established since I had last done this trip a couple years ago.  As is well documented, there are a couple gulleys after clearing the trees on the bootpath that have some loose rock.  Recommend helmets on as soon as you clear the trees.  At the ridge e took the direct route from the shoulder to the summit.  Great rock and clean large holds.

The Rachel Lake TH is a busy one.  Recommend being there no later than 7:30 am on a summer weekend.  Pit toilets and outhouses were there and in good working order.  Again, smoke from fires to the North and East was a concern from a health perspective, but in our case didn't prove to be an issue.
