Alpine Scramble - Earl Peak

Good weather, good group, good day.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Route straightforward, stream crossings unproblematic.

We were exceptionally lucky with the weather, with sunny skies free of smoke.  Ultimately inaccurate forecasts of first snow accumulation and then rain during the night before the trip (and thus wet brush) led us to abandon the plan of an off-trail approach and use the established trail.  It’s a popular destination; on exit we saw cars were parked down the access road but not to the extent that access to the trail became impossible.  There’s a well beaten boot path to the summit, with enough loose gravel to require some attention.  Maybe 20 other people on the summit.
