Trip Report
Alpine Scramble - Earl Peak
Scrambled Pt 6549, southeast of Earl Peak, in fall conditions.
- Fri, Oct 20, 2017
- Alpine Scramble - Earl Peak
- Bean Creek Basin
- Scrambling
- Successful
- Road recommended for high clearance only
-
The spur road up Standup Creek has 5 waterbars. No problem for a Forester but would be difficult with less clearance.
With a forecast of high winds, the goal was changed from Fortune to Pt 6549, a surveyed summit southeast of Earl Peak near the Standup Creek/Stafford Creek pass. This allowed for a wind protected approach. The Standup Creek trail had 5 stream crossing, fine now but might be difficult in high water. From the pass Earl is accessible by a less travelled route, as well as Pt 6549. Snow was continuous from ~5,800'.
