Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Dog Mountain (Snoqualmie)

An interesting scramble with a good group of people.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Conditions: Abandon Road, Unmaintained Trail, off trail with firm snow with sections of steep dirt/moss/blueberry bushes.

After record breaking heat and dry condition we were surprise to find an overnight enough drizzle occurred to make all the  vegetation completely wet. This resulted in everyone getting wet from the brush along the abandon road and unmaintained trail until we reach the snow about 4200'.  The trail was easy to follow and had been flagged until we reach the snow. Note, there was a couple of place the bonus flagging could take you off the trail. At about 4300' the snow was firm enough we  put on micro spikes  and headed up roughly southwest to the summit mostly on snow with some sections of steep dirt, moss and blueberry bushes. We had no views on the summit due to being in a cloud but the rock was dry  and we enjoy lunch on the summit.
