Alpine Scramble - DeRoux Peak

We made a circuit around DeRoux Peak, from the DeRoux-Koppen saddle, returning by way of the upper basin of the Middle Teanaway River.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The Teanaway River road was as full of potholes as I've ever seen it.  And the trail had much mud and occasional small ponds from all the recent rains.

With a lubricating layer of unconsolidated snow on the summit rock of our original destination, the east peak of Esmeralda, we instead scrambled DeRoux, as it had less steep slopes.  Still had plenty of opportunity for loose footing.  Exceptionally colorful black cottonwood in the valley and wonderfully clear weather high.  It was the second weekend of hunting season and the valley was full of hunting camps, though we only saw a handful on the trails.
