Alpine Scramble - Captain Point

Pleasant trail hike and T2 snow scramble to great views. 7.5 mi, 2900' gain.

  • Road rough but passable
  • The "abandoned" Kelley Creek Trail is in pretty good shape, not hard to follow most of the time, with maybe 10 fallen logs that must be gone over, under, or around. Patches of snow at about 5000', just below the saddle north of Captain Point. Continuous snow on open slopes on the east side of the ridge to the summit.

There was room for 3 vehicles at the start of the Kelley Creek Trail.

We considered descending the south ridge to the forest roads and thence back to the TH, as it was certainly feasible, but opted for glissade and shade afforded by returning the way we came.

7.5 miles, 2900' gain.

4 hours up, 1 hour summit lounging, 2.2 hours down.
