Alpine Scramble - Bryant Peak

10 scramblers had an enjoyable day on Bryant Peak, although smoky skies limited the views.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The snow has melted from the upper slopes, so that a lot of brush can be avoided by following the mostly dry stream bed.

We met at the Denny Creek TH at 7:30 when there were still a few parking places left.  Starting that early was also good because we had more shade.  The hike to Hemlock Pass was pleasant and reasonably cool with few bugs.   We left all the other people behind once we left the trail, but unfortunately many bugs awaited us there, especially while climbing up the stream bed.  The bugs weren't too bad on the summit, where we enjoyed views of peaks as far as the crest of the Cascades, but not much farther due to smoke.  The trip down was uneventful, although one car pool of 5 did have to deal with a flat tire on the way home.
