Alpine Scramble - Bean Peak, Volcanic Neck & Devil's Head

Loop trip: Bean Peak via Bean Creek Basin, Volcanic Neck, Devil's Head, returned to trail xing at Bean-Volcanic Neck saddle, then W trail to Beverly Turnpike Trail and Bean/Beverly trail. 7 hrs c2c.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

  • Water available at Bean Creek, then while traveling W from Bean-Volcanic Neck saddle.  Crossings were easy.

Four  party members. Left TH 07:20. Left the trail around 5800' and approached Bean off-trail directly from the south. Summited Bean Peak 09:20, left 09:45. Volcanic Neck base 10:15, summit 10:35-10:40. Devil's Head 11:20-11:55. Bean Pk-Volcanic Neck saddle 12:20. Beverly Turnpike trail 13:05. Bean Creek trail 14:05, TH 14:15. 7 hours c2c. No problems of any kind. Threatening clouds moved in while at Devil's Head so we decided not to do either of the "horns". Naturally they mostly cleared out after we headed for the exits.
