Trip Report

Adventure Club - Climbing Trip - Vantage (Frenchman Coulee)

A great MAC climbing trip to Vantage. A great time for students, chaperones, and volunteers and anyone else involved.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • No issues, roads and trails still in good condition as normal.

This trip was a two day overnight climbing excursion led by the Mountaineers Adventure Club. We went over the Columbia River into Frenchman's Coulee, where Vantage is located. Vantage is a very popular climbing area, and we were lucky to be able to camp in our regular spot by the bathrooms. Last year the first day of the trip was a hike, and the second was climbing, but this year we climbed on both days. We split into three groups of 6-8 students and went to different climbing areas. Weather was amazingly clear and pleasant, but at night it started to rain. We were all prepared for the cold so sleeping was not an issue. For climbing, there was a lot of improvement and skills learned. Some students did their first lead climbing on bolts, as well as some students getting more experience lead belaying and cleaning routes. We had great volunteer support on this trip and everyone had a great time.
