Possession Sound

A challenging sea kayak trip with possible 15-knot winds and 2-foot waves because of its long fetch. Possession Sound lies between Everett and Mukilteo on the east and Whidbey Island on the west. This sound is an often used feeding ground by grey whales in early spring.

on the water

Possession Sound is  3-6 nm wide, east to west and  9 nm long,  north to south, and lies along the  south eastern shore of Whidbey Island.  It is south of Camano Island  where currents are weak and variable.  Because of  its shallow depth, large tidal exchanges are significant to a good trip plan, especially at the mouth of the Snohomish River in Everett.
