on the trail
At English Camp on Garrison Bay, this hike provides an opportunity to view the blockhouse, storehouse, hospital, and barracks, which are remnants of the mid-19th-century Pig War. Leaving English Camp, you continue along a bluff and then through a madrona forest to reach Bell Point. After looping back, you start an uphill hike through a forest of oaks to reach the top of Young Hill for a grand view of the island and surroundings. On the trip back down the hill to English Camp, you may visit the six Royal Marines and one civilian buried in the English Camp cemetery.
