getting there

From US 97A in Entiat, turn west onto Entiat River Road (County Road 19 and Forest Road 5100). Continue ~35 miles and turn right onto Forest Road 5606 and continue to the North Fork Entiat River Trailhead (3,880 ft).

approach

Hike the North Fork Entiat River Trail to Pyramid Trail junction and take the left fork, ~8 miles. Camp 0.25 mile north at Fox Camp. There is also a beautiful camp in the basin between Emerald and Saska Peaks, another 1.5 miles.

Ascent

Emerald Peak (8,422 ft)

From Fox Camp hike the Pyramid Trail 1 .5 miles to the basin between Emerald and Saska. From the basin climb to upper basin just below ridge between Emerald and Saska. Climb high enough to see the broad gully leading to the summit. There appear to be three summits. Climb to the notch between the left and middle summit. Turn right and climb to the middle gully—watch for loose rock—to the summit.

Saska Peak (8,404 ft)

Return to the trail in basin and follow it west for 0.5 mile to 300 feet short of the first switchback to Saska Pass. Leave the trail right and climb up the hill into the basin south of Saska Peak. A broad gully leads up and left to the South Ridge. Climb to the right notch (red rock). Cross over the ridge and drop slightly traversing north 300 feet. A series of benches and a steep gully lead up to the South Ridge—high rock fall danger and many loose hand holds. Climb the South Ridge to the airy summit.
