Columbia River: Aldrich Point Area
The many islands of the Lewis and Clark National Wildlife Refuge can be easily access from the Aldrich Point boat launch. This many low islands and quiet sloughs of this area abound with bird life year-round. The islands include Horseshoe, Woody, Tronson, Goose, Grassy, Quinns, Welch and Fitzpatrick Islands.
Launch Point
Aldrich Point: A one-lane boat ramp with a dock and beach. It is fairly remote, ~5 miles north of US-30. From I-5 in Longview, exit onto US-30 and drive west for 61 miles. Turn north onto Ziak-Gnat Creek Road, in 1 mile turn right onto Aldrich Point Road, and follow it 4.3 miles to the boat launch.
On the Water
This unique area, that is home to the Lewis and Clark National Wildlife Refuge, has almost endless possibilities for day trip exploration. Abundant wildlife and almost no development provide a treat for paddlers. There are some challenges for rest stops, because much of the shoreline has abundant vegetation and/or muddy shores.
