We will meet at the Longmire Museum at 6:30AM to stage a car for our return (as well as use the heated restrooms), before continuing to the Kautz Creek trailhead, our point of departure.  We will head out from the Kautz Creek trailhead at 7AM.

A very strenuous and beautiful winter one way traverse of Mt Ararat and Satulick, starting from the Kautz Creek trailhead, and ending at Longmire. At ~4400’ of gain and ~15 miles of trail breaking this workout is only for folks with recent comparable trips.  We will ascend the Kautz Creek trailhead to the stream crossing at ~3,900 feet, then will head cross country and use the winter route to ascend the WSW aspect of Mt Ararat.  From Ararat we will descend its ENE aspect, then follow the ridge crest to the summit of Satulick Mt.  After backtracking a bit we will join the snow covered Wonderland trail near Squaw Lakes, then follow it over Rampart Ridge and our cars at Longmire.  Photos from prior trips using the WSW aspect of Mt Ararat (as well as a map of the winter route) can be seen here.
