- Loop walk through Newcastle neighborhoods and greenspaces. The route follows Newcastle and King County trails in the area of May Creek and Coal Creek. Historic May Creek Trail follows the route of the former Walla Walla Railroad. There are artifacts to view (like the one in the picture).
- Walking surfaces include gravel, packed earth, pavement and sidewalks. Crossing streets with traffic at crosswalks, some have traffic lights.
- Most of the route is on forested or greenspace trails; hence, you must have experience on trails that have elevation gain/loss and features such as roots or rocks.
- There is a short section (about 0.25 mile) near the De Leo Wall Viewpoint which traverses the side of a slope; so, you must be competent on this narrow section of trail. The forested and greenspace trails are similar to those on Cougar Mountain.
- Be aware that I screen the activity profile of those who register. This is to assure that everyone will be able to complete the route safely. If your activity profile doesn't show similar trips, you may be contacted for more information.
- Walk will be canceled or rescheduled if there are hazardous trail, weather or road conditions, or heavy rainfall.
- 8:45am ready to walk. Lake Boren Park parking lot (13058 SE 84th Way, Newcastle, WA 98056) near the restrooms. Loop walk begins and end here.
