Sea Kayak - Totten Inlet

Olympia Wednesday Night Paddle. We will launch from a private beach at the Carlyon Community off Steamboat Island Road. Be ready to launch at 6pm sharp. Route TBA based on conditions.

  • Sea Kayak II+
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 10.0 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 1.0 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 1.0 kts
  • Pace: 2.5 kn
Meet and launch from Carlyon Beach.  Note this is a gated, private community beach and we will be guests of one of the residents. Your map app should pick up "Carlyon Beach" but, here is an old fashioned direction:  From Olympia, take U.S. 101 north toward Shelton and Port Angeles.  Exit at Steamboat Island Rd.  Take Steamboat Island Rd 8.6 miles to the end, just before the Steamboat Island Bridge.  The gate to the launch area is on the right.

You must have a current Mountaineers sea kayaking badge to sign up for Wed night paddles.  The Wed night paddle does not satisfy the requirement for a student experience paddle.  However, newly badged paddlers are welcome! Leader's permission is not required.  We will conduct the paddle at a level commensurate with the group's skill level, consistent with weather, current and wind forecasts.  As a trained Mountaineer paddler, we trust you to check the forecast for yourself and if wind predictions are beyond your comfort level, defer to another Wed.
